What Vietnam Taught Me About Money
One night in Vietnam, I came back to my apartment after a long day out. It was around 1am, and I remember thinking how nice the place was — especially for how little it cost compared to home. It felt like luxury.
Right outside the building, I saw two kids sleeping on the ground by themselves.
It didn't feel real at first. I had just walked into comfort, and a few steps away they had nothing. In their own country.
I felt a mix of emotions — sadness, guilt, but also gratitude. I took them to a nearby 7-Eleven and told them to get whatever they wanted. It wasn't much to me, but in that moment it felt like the best money I've ever spent.
That night stuck with me. It made me realize how unfair life can be, and how much opportunity depends on where you're born. It also changed how I think about success. It's not just about making money — it's about what you're able to experience, and what you're able to give.
I still think about those kids all the time. I hope life has been better to them.
